Title:
Conserving Our Ecosystems
Timing:
2-3 weeks using both your writing and science times
Driving Question:
How can we as Missouri Conservationists educate our community about Missouri ecosystems and their preservation?
Project Description:
Students will design informational signage to inform others about specific ecosystems (pond and forest) that are near Liberty Oaks. The signage will also include information on how to preserve the ecosystem. We will go to the Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center to learn more information about the ecosystems, conservation efforts, and signage.
Final Product(s):
Team:
Design signage for the Missouri ecosystem types we have right by our school (pond, forest).
*Signage will include the following information:
Describing the ecosystem
3-5 animals that live in the ecosystem and information on their specialized structures
3-5 plants that live in the ecosystem and information on their specialized structures
Protection/Conservation of ecosystem
Individual:
Informational writing about an ecosystem of their choice (not one of the Missouri ecosystems we already researched). This product will be completed after the close of this PBL unit during our writing time.
*will include “chapters” on the following information:
Describing the ecosystem
3-5 animals that live in the ecosystem and information on their specialized structures
3-5 plants that live in the ecosystem and information on their specialized structures
Protection/Conservation of ecosystem

Potential Community Outreach:
We will go to Anita B. Gorman to learn more about Missouri Ecosystems and conservations. We would like to have a MO conservationist come in to help us explore the pond/forest by our school and discuss signage.
