Title:
Navigators
Timing:
2 quarter, 4 weeks
Driving Question:
How can we, as Kellybrook Experts, help new students navigate our school?
Project Description:
Students realize that Kellybrook is a big school and not everyone knows where to go, especially new students. Students will explore different maps and understand the key elements that make it easier to get somewhere. Teams will pick a specific spot in KB and create a map with written informational directions to help get from one place to another within KB. Students will create a draft of their maps and written text to receive feedback to revise and reflect from peers. This map will incorporate coding for an ozobot to follow as a model of a new student following this map. To finish up as a class, we will create a virtual tour of different spots in KB that can be uploaded to our school website.
Final Product(s):
With a partner, students will create a map for their ozobot to follow from one point to another within Kellybrook. Then the partnerships will upload their map to Youtube. Then as a class we will create a virtual tour for all new students to watch.

follow a sense of order in writing d. create some sense of closure
1.ETS.1.B- Developing Possible Solutions
Develop a simple sketch, drawing, or physical model to illustrate how the shape of an object helps it function as needed to solve a given problem.
Potential Community Outreach:
Graphic Designer, Map Historian
Teacher Reflection:
The Map historian really went over our 1st grade students heads. We suggest maybe having a 10 minute rotation of all 1st grade classes so he only talks about maps for 10 min for each class. We had 30 minutes with all 1st grade classes listen and it was hard for our 1st graders to focus since they really didn't understand much of what he. was saying.
