Title:
#twinning #climates
Timing:
3 Weeks
Driving Question:
How can you determine a city’s climate twin based on its landforms, ocean currents, latitude, and large bodies of water?
Project Description:
Students analyze the East and West coast of the United States to determine what creates differences in daily weather. (i.e. California’s coast is home to cooler oceans than Florida because of the currents that move the Earth’s ocean waters.)
Final Product(s):
Students create a map that shows different factors of the world climate and match six cities with their “twin” based on patterns and descriptions of the weather. They will justify their answers using scientific evidence, and will share that evidence through a google form/document. They will then create a presentation to predict the weather in each location for the following three days.
Essential Standards:
ESS 2.C.3 Develop and use a model to describe how unequal heating and rotation of the Earth cause patterns of atmospheric and oceanic circulation that determine regional climates.
Potential Community Outreach:
Interact with local weather person/climatologist as an expert. Determine the local climate and how our weather is affected by it.
Teacher Reflection:
Supporting Documents (optional):
Completed climate maps and weather forecasts.
