Title:
Pizza Night
Timing:
OpenUp Unit 3--Area and Circumference of Circles 3 weeks in November 2018
Driving Question:
What is the best pizza deal and how do you know?
Project Description:
Students collect data by researching different pizza restaurants to compute various measures of pizza (total price, diameter, area, circumference, price per square in each) in order to make comparisons to figure out which measures would impact the overall value.
Final Product(s):
Individual student data record sheet and a group infographic compiled of multiple student data sheets to be shared with local pizza companies.
Essential Standards:
7.GMA4--Understand concepts of circles: Know and apply the formulas for circumference and area of circles to solve problems
Potential Community Outreach:
Local pizza restaurants to collect research and share final student products with.
Parent involvement with supplying pizzas for our culminating activity (pizza party--each student gets a square inch to understand the value of a square inch)
Teacher Reflection:
Overall, very successful project. Definitely needs some tweaking/minor revisions--very open ended when choosing pizza places and types of pizza to compare. Great buy-in from students and parents.
