Project Description:

Students will learn of the social, economic and political causes and consequences of the Civil War. They will explore the connections between the Civil War and the LPS high school district division in our community to get a concrete connection to current for the students. Our school is divided between LHS & LNHS student population.

Final Product(s):

  • Final project is one of the following that tells advice on building a stronger community:
  • website
  • feature articles/ editorials
  • blog post

Essential Standards:

  • H.3a.G- Identify political, economic and social causes and consequences of the Civil War and Reconstruction.
  • TS.7.b- Use visual tools to interpret, draw conclusions, make predictions, and communicate information and ideas.
  • TS.7.c- Identify, research, and defend a point of view/position on a social studies’ topic.
  • R1.D- Read independently for multiple purposes over sustained periods of time by:
  • a. reading text that is developmentally appropriate
  • b. producing evidence of reading

Teacher Reflection:

Unless you have a school population that is divided equally between the two high schools this will not work for you. The other recommendation is to allow appropriate time for all elements.
