Title:
Understanding Our Ecosystem
Timing:
4-6 weeks
Driving Question:
How can we share our knowledge of animal adaptations in their biomes?
Project Description:
The students will learn about the grassland, ocean, desert, arctic and rainforest biomes. They will use the research process to understand the weather, environment and animal adaptations the biome that interests them.
Final Product(s):
The students will present a biome box, slides or poster to classmates and parents explaining how animals have adapted to their biome and important information about their biome.
Essential Standards:
From Molecules to Organisms: Structure & Processes LS1A1
- I can identify physical and behavioral adaptations of plants and animals.
- I can communicate and defend an argument to explain how certain habitats are suitable for plants and animals while other habitats are not.
Writing: Research Process W3A
- I can select the best sources to answer my questions.
- I can locate information in many different sources.
- I can decide what information answers my questions.
- I can present the information in a report or annotated display using teacher and student criteria.
- I can evaluate the information in a report or annotated display using teacher and student criteria.

Potential Community Outreach:
Teacher Reflection:
Supporting Documents (optional):
Entry Event: Set up room with a “room transformation” for each biome. In each area create a scene that matches the biome to peak students interest. Allow students to “sample” each biome before committing to researching and sharing one.
