Project Description:

The students will study how the perseverance helped people overcome the Great Depression. The students will be able to identify the political, economic and social causes and consequences of the Great Depression. They will transfer their understanding of perseverance into a narrative piece to showcase at 5th grade recognition night.

Final Product(s):

  • Interview a family member about a time that they persevered through a hard time.
  • Both historical and personal stories/videos
  • Presentations out, speaking points out (3 or so) - people coming around with question cards to engage the speakers

Essential Standards:

H.3.a.H - Identify political, economic, and social causes and consequences of the Great Depression.

 

Writing

Reread, revise, and edit drafts with assistance to:

a. develop and strengthen writing by revising

• main idea

• sequence (ideas)

• focus

• organizational structure

• details/facts (from multiple sources, when appropriate)

• word choice (related to the topic)

• sentence structure

• transitions

• audience and purpose

• voice

b. edit for language conventions

With assistance from adults/peers:

a. use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing
