Project Description:

The colonization of the Americas will be studied through the lens of the impact on the native people of North and South America by European explorers. Students will gather evidence throughout the unit to support “pro or con” during a debate or a mock trial.

Final Product(s):

Students will write a letter to a state or federal official to: 1. support Columbus Day as a national holiday or 2. Support abolishing or changing Columbus Day to a more inclusive celebration.

  • I can identify the motivations for movement of people and goods.
  • I can evaluate the impact of the movement of people, goods, and ideas.
